By popular request here is an easy bossa nova strum that you can use on either a nylon string guitar or steel string guitar.
There are many different versions of the bossa nova rhythm. This is a fairly simple one that you can learn easily with a little practice.
The rhythm I often use for my CD is a little more complex. I learned the one in this lesson from Justin Sandercoe. If you'd like to see another lesson on this strum you can check out Justin's video on YouTube here:
I love comments 🙂 Let me know how you like this lesson and what other lessons you'd like me to create below.

We would love to hear your comments and questions. What specific things are you struggling with while learning guitar?
The Bossa Nova strum looks like fun but difficult for me at this point.
Thanks Tomas; beautiful
Thanks, sounds so cool. This will be my next project after I get comfortable with my practice of Malaguena. Please keep the lessons coming, I enjoy listening and learning how to play them.

Not difficult IF a person takes the time to learn the chords AND puts the Lesson together like a puzzle–one piece at time. I am working hard on it. Thanks for the Lesson. 😉
I really enjoyed your lesson. I found it very easy to follow and certainly would like to learn more. Thanks
You’re welcome Pete. – Tomas
Quite difficult for me at first but was eventually able to play it because of your clear instructions. Thanks!

This video opened up a world to me. I spent a couple of weeks learning the strumming pattern from your video and have spent the past year trying to apply it to a couple of lessons for The Girl From Ipanema., one of them harder than the other. Having learnt the rhythm from your excellent video and chart, "all I have to work on" are the dreadful chords without damaging my 66 year old hands too much. I expect to have done the "easier" one which is just chords, and maybe by age 70 wil have mastered the harder one.
I just love playing the rhythm and tell myself other B. N. tunes will come faster. It's a good way to wake up and also to settle myself for sleep.
Thank you
Thanks do much for this! My number one go to music!
