Blues Guitar Lesson – “Stormy Monday” Blues Progression You Must Learn

Part 1

“If you don’t know the blues… there’s no point in picking up the guitar and playing rock and roll or any other form of popular music.”
— Keith Richards (Rolling Stones)

Ahh… The Blues

If you have any interest in playing blues guitar  there quite a list of blue songs that you would want to learn. There is one song, however, that stands out. That’s Stormy Monday by T-bone Walker. The chord progression has become a standard in the world of blues and you can be sure that if you’re at a jam session that somebody will eventually pull this out and expect you to know it.

This blues guitar song is based around a standard three chord progression with something a little more interesting added in the middle.

Eric Clapton Version

If you’d like to hear what it sounds like here’s Eric Clapton playing his version live at a concert in 2011…

Part 2

This lesson is #96 taken from my course Real Guitar Awesomeness. In my course I spend time teaching the basic three chord blues progression before getting to more complex songs like this one I also include a workbook that has all the chords and progression written out.
